During the mid-1970s Louis Vincent and his group released several soul singles for the Ohio based Hook-Up record label. They were the only group to record for the small independent imprint during the period from 1973 to around 1976 and its likely that each record was originally released with extremely limited availability, making each of the titles really collectable and not widely known.

Germany’s Tramp record label have lovingly put together this great little collection from The Silky Vincent Group’s short history for the Hook-Up record label. Each of the 8-tracks adds something special with either female or male vocalists fronting the individual pieces, adding a varied yet cohesive feel throughout the album. The mid-paced soulful grooves are laced with gospel roots and a funk edged rhythm, with the female backing group lifting the overall sound dynamic.

Of the 8 tracks from The Silky Vincent Group, ‘Get Down For Your Action’, ‘Breezing’, ‘Dance’ and ‘Changed Man’ are probably the most highly sought after titles from their recording period.

The album was recorded over two days in Meudon, France, with guests Keziah Jones, Joseph Bowie (Defunkt) and vibraphonist David Neerman. During the sessions, 20 songs were recorded live in the studio with no overdubs.

El Rego is a true legend of African Soul Music.

Here for the first time on album are 12 of his greatest recordings from the late '60s and early '70s hand-picked by Daptone Records. Afro-Soul collector/DJ Frank Gossner had spent years combing West Africa tracking down 45s by Theophile Do Rego (aka El Rego) before nally meeting him face to face in his home in Benin. The music of El Rego varies astoundingly in style and rhythm: traditional rhythms of Benin played with modern instruments, John Lee Hooker-esque blues, Fela Kuti inspired afro-beat, afro-cuban claves, and straight-up James Brown style funk.

New Orleans Soul incorporated the soulful vocals of the gospel church, the driving beat of rhythm and blues, as well as traces of the second-line parade bands and the latinized rhythms of the city. Here you will find New Orleans soul in all its glorious variations – from the deep, deep soul of singers Aaron Neville, Willie Tee and Robert Parker to the storming northern soul of Maurice Williams and Eldridge Holmes, the funky soul of Eddie Bo, Lionel Robinson and Ernie K-Doe all alongside the Crescent City’s finest soul sisters – Irma Thomas, Betty Harris, Jean Knight, Inell Young and more!

This album features the work of revolutionary jazz artists who created new radical music infused with the values of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Voici ce que dit Wiki de ce prolifique compositeur :

Janko Nilovic, né à Istanbul en 1941, a été naturalisé français en 1973. Il est un compositeur majeur aux six pseudos différents (Andy Loore, Emiliano.Orti, Alan Blackwel...) depuis plus de 50 ans mais aussi arrangeur pour Gérard Lenorman, Michel Jonasz pour lequel il a composé jusqu’en 1969. Janko s’est fait notamment remarquer pour ses musiques d’illustration sonore auprès des Editions Neuilly, Sforzando mais surtout des Editions Montparnasse 2000 pour lesquelles il enregistre le fameux Psyc Impression sorti en 1969 samplé quarante ans plus tard par Jay Z. Dix-neuf autres disques sortiront sur ce label dont les chefs d’œuvre Soul Impression et Rythmes Contemporains qui ne cessent d’être réédités sur d'autre labels étrangers et français tellement ils sont prisés par les collectionneurs de la planète. La musique de Janko est aussi présente dans des films, des documentaires. De fait, pour Janko, la musique doit inconsciemment s’associer à l’image, d’où le terme de “musique illustrative” pour qualifier sa musique.
